Welcome to the Black Rock City Community Collective, a grassroots movement comprised of burners and community organizers acting in concerted effort to assist the BMorg in collaborating together with the Community to make wise choices for the greater good of the Burning Man Arts Festival. Our aim is to make the experience of Burning Man one in alignment with our highest values of radical self-expression, self-reliance, community-in-action, and the gift economy.
According to Maid Marian, the Mistress of Communication for BMorg:
"Burning Man is more than just an event in the desert. We are all members of a greater community. It takes a great deal of work and collective coordination to bring Burning Man to fruition each year. Your role as artist, theme camp creator, pre-event or onsite volunteer, ranger or musician is critical to creating a safe, expressive and commerce-free community."
In the spirit of Maid Marian's statement, the Black Rock City Community Collective was born. Together we hope we can work to preserve integrity of our home -- our special place, our sacred space -- to commune, to celebrate, to create and to radically express. Therefore, we believe when the founding principles of Burning Man are compromised, weakened or threatened, it is within the Community's right to speak out and for the BMorg to hear us and respond accordingly. The Black Rock City Collective would like to see a methodology in place whereby it can bring up issues, voice opinions, challenge the actions, and ask questions of the BMorg and to which the BMorg shall be accountable to. Currently, all BMorg's communications are one-way, from the top down.
